Digital SAT
Dear Parent/Guardian,
The purpose of this letter is to provide information regarding students’ participation in the Spring 2024 Digital SAT School Day assessment for school year (SY) 2023-24. To address this goal, DoDEA is partnering with College Board to offer digital SAT School Day at all its high schools for 11th and 12th grade students, March of 2024. Through the offering of the digital SAT School Day test, DoDEA is providing equitable opportunities for students to test during the school day and will assume the cost of the test for 11th grade students (every year) and 12th grade students (all 12th grade students in SY 23-24, and in subsequent years, only for new 12th grade students who did not have an opportunity to test in DoDEA previously) making it more likely for all students to take the SAT test.
By including the digital SAT School Day test, a college admissions test, into DoDEA-CAS Suite of Assessments, DoDEA is providing equity and access to college and career programs for all its high school students. The paper-based SAT test will be available only to students who require paper format test accommodations, as approved by College Board. Mr. Malloy, Lakenheath High School, determined the best date in which to administer the digital SAT School Day test at our school is on April 3rd, and the make-up/retesting date will be announced when it has been set.
The digital SAT School Day Coordinator will order the SAT test for all 11th and 12th grade students and DoDEA will pay the testing fees. The ‘Saturday Weekend Digital SAT Coordinator’ will continue to follow the school, College Board, and DoDEA’s established SAT test protocols, ordering, and administration procedures.
The benefits for students taking the digital SAT School Day test include:
- Having access to a customized skills-based SAT study resource.
- A free full-length adaptive practice digital SAT test anytime, anywhere using the official SAT Practice on Khan Academy (Reference to Khan Academy and the College Board does not imply endorsement of these entities by DoD or DoDEA).
- Digital applications include several testing tools students will use during testing such as:
- A way to flag questions and revisit them later.
- A countdown clock that alerts students when testing time is running out.
- A built-in graphing calculator students can use on the entire Math section.
- A reference sheet, for each math question, consisting of common formulas.
- Additional tools include highlighting, masking, mark for review, assistive technology, and keyboard shortcuts.
- Students will receive their SAT scores within days rather than weeks which allow students to meet the college application deadlines.
The digital SAT School Day test experience is shorter than the current paper-pencil test, around two hours instead of the three, which includes two sections Reading and Writing, and Math. Your child’s teacher will provide opportunities for the students to take a practice digital SAT School Day test so they can familiarize themselves with the digital Bluebook Test Application and digital tools prior to the April 3rd, 2024, testing date. In preparation for the 2024 digital SAT School Day administration, please encourage your child to take the College Board digital SAT School Day practice test to help him/her improve their test-taking skills and to familiarize themselves with the Bluebook Test Application and tools.
